Huatulco
Huatulco is a coastal paradise that lies at the southern tip of the Southern Sierra Madre Mountain
range, on the Pacific Coast. This city is located in the state of Oaxaca approximately 500 km (311 mi) south of
Acapulco, Guerrero.
The climate in Huatulco is hot and semi-humid with the average temperature of 28ºC (83ºF). Sunshine can be expected
throughout most of the year but the rainy season is from June to November. The amount of precipitation has a definite
effect on the local vegetation, being very green in the rainy season.
The tourist resort of Huatulco was developed with an eye toward ecological preservation. Known for its marvelous
steep landscapes, fertile valleys and abundant jungle vegetation, Huatulco’s tourism industry is centered on its
nine bays. Bahias de Huatulco (Huatulco Bays) is the largest ecological reserve designated by the Mexican
government, stretching along 26 km (17 mi) of coast line. This makes it a unique tourist destination, since it
combines modern and luxurious resort infrastructure within an unthinkable diversity of natural sceneries, offering
a great variety of eco-tourism activities.

Huatulco: A Resort Destination within a Natural Ambiance
Huatulco is divided into four districts: Tangolunda is one of Huatulco’s districts, where upscale resorts stand on
the bay’s shore. The beaches have calm water that varies between cobalt blue and emerald green. These crystalline
waters are ideal for fishing and snorkeling. In Tangolunda Bay you can find excellent plazas and one of the best
Golf courses on the Pacific Coast; Santa Cruz is another district, this town is the center of commercial and
tourist activities. Thanks to its abundant marine life is an exceptional spot for scuba diving and hosts the annual
Sailfish Fishing Tournament. Many resorts offerings are found here, such as hotels, bars, restaurants, excursion
agencies, ports and marinas offering al the necessary docking services.
Chahue is an area between Santa Cruz and Tangolunda. In its bay you can find a marina for yachts and four-star
hotels with excellent service and restaurants. Its wide beaches are surrounded by exotic vegetation. The warm
shallow waters in these beaches have big waves allowing you to get in some good surfing and windsurfing.
Finally La Crucecita (little cross), another small town, is located just inland from the beach. This town was
created to provide services to the development of the resort area. Here you can find many restaurants and shops
built around a typical Mexican zocalo – a park in the center of the town.

Huatulco’s surrounding areas have a widely diverse ecosystem ideal to do all kinds of recreational and cultural
activities. Huatulco has two important river routes, where you can do rafting, kayaking and canoeing, located at
Copalita River 65 km (40 mi) from the city. Along this river you can also find the Cascadas Magicas de Copalita,
these majestic waterfalls are an excellent place to relax and go swimming.
Huatulco, and its nine beautiful bays, has tradition of history and legend. Each year main celebrations take place
in this city, like Fiesta del Mar during Holy Week and the celebration of Santa Cruz on May,

Oxacan ingredients. You can try exotic delicacies of the sea and local favorites such as shrimp in mescal – an
alcoholic beverage made from maguey plant. This city has various restaurants, bars and nightclubs ideal for an
